How a DUI arrest can affect you and your family.
Have you been arrested for a DUI? If so, the next thing you need to do is call the Howard, Lewis & Petersen Provo Criminal Law Attorney office. A DUI is a serious offense and can cause multiple problems for you and your family. Here are some of the ways you’re entire family will suffer due to the arrest.
Removed Transportation:
Now, this will vary based on the judge, the situation, and if this is your first offense or not. Often times you’ll either not be allowed to drive a vehicle at all, or you’ll only be allowed to drive your vehicle to and from work for a six-month period. If you are unable to drive, this will make going to work challenging while your family will need to find alternative means of transportation.
Loss of Income:
Depending on who you work for, you may lose your job completely. If you retain your job you’ll still need to pay all the fines and legal fees, which will add up to several thousand dollars. In addition, when you are able to drive again your insurance will go up. So all around it will cost more to own a vehicle for an extended period of time.
Time Away From the Family:
When you are arrested for a DUI you’ll be taken into jail until you sober up. There may be times, depending on the severity of the case, where you can’t leave jail until a judge is able to see you. If this is on the weekend you may need to wait until Monday. As part of your sentence you may need to serve some time in jail. There will also be classes and community service you probably need to serve as well.
